Eagles Midgets Come Up On The Short End At The Conference Finals.

November 24, 2009

The Midgets played the Lakewood Titans on Saturday evening. This game  was for the right to play in the PCC Championship. Our defense had strict plans under the guidance of Coach Chris Parr. “Take everything they got but give them nothing!” For three and a half quarters we gave them nothing and we took the game from them. At the end of the first half we were up 6 – 0. Thanks to an interception by the defense and a run back for a touchdown. Lakewood looked confused as if to say that this was not the same Eagles team they played earlier this season with their blow out defeat.  In the thid quarter the Titans changed their all out attack offense to a very time consuming run oriented offense. This strategy appeared to have worked. They kept the football for the entire third quarter keeping our highly potent offense off of the field. Our defense denied them in the red zone area. At the end of the third quarter we are still up 6 – 0. The fourth quarter begins and we are on offense for the first time since the second quarter. We go three and out and give up some good field position after punting. Our defense once again is asked to stop this high powered offense. The Titans became desperate. Pulling all the trick plays out their bags yet we denied them. If we hold them this last play maybe we can run the clock out. Lakewood throws a fade rout to the corner. The defense is in place. Only a perfect pass could make this a completion. It was a perfect pass and a touchdown for the Titans. They make their go ahead extra point kick to take the lead from us late in the fourth quarter. We don’t quit though. We throw a quick strike to put us on Lakewood’s side of the field. We go for it all on four different tries. We are denied yet by the Titans stingy defense. The Eagles fans stand up and give the players a standing ovation. These gentlemen have never won a playoff game before. They won two this year. Almost pulled off an upset victory over the defending champs from last year and the year before. The Titans may have won this game but the best team on that night and the best coaching staff on that field that night didn’t win. Congratulation to Chris Parr, his staff and to our Midgets for coming together and producing one of the most exciting season at El Segundo. Good luck to you boys as you persue your highschool football dreams.

“It only takes one play to be an Eagle for life.”

Jr. Pee Wees Are Heading Back To The PCC Championship Again!

November 24, 2009

The El Segundo Jr. Pee Wees will take their 21 games winning streak and their  Mighty Mites defending champs crown back to the PCC Championship this Saturday at Downey High School. The Jr Pee Wees had no problems with defeating the Lakewood Vikings on Saturday (20-0). The offense attacked with the sense of urgency. Backed by their swarming defense, which denied any attacks attempeted by their opponent. The game was intense for the fans early. But the players appeared to be not fazed by any attempts of sabatoge.  At the end of the game our well discliplined Eagles will represent the Pacific Division in the Championship versus the Coast Champions Lakewood Spartans. These two teams have a lot of history between them. At the Mighty Mite division last year they played for the championship. The game went into triple overtime with the Eagles upsetting them. The Spartans felt like it was their championship last year and that they have unfinished business to take care of. They had a chance to take care that unfinished business in October when they matched up in a regular season game. Once again the Eagles proved that they were the better team by putting up a decisive victory. This championship game will determine once and for all that we at El Segundo will not be denied from what is rightfully ours.  We are asking that every man, woman and child to be present on Saturday to show your Eagle Spirit, Eagle Pride, and the love that we have for our city… I will be there!! Will you??

Game time 11am at Downey High School….

El Segundo Eagles Wins Three Out Of Six In The 2nd Round!!

November 16, 2009

El Segundo finished their 2nd round postseason play with three wins out of six games. But only two teams move on to the 3rd round.

The Flags were a last minute replacement team matched up against Lakewood Trojans at Banning Highschool. It didn’t take long for the offense to establish their dominance once again with long runs for touchdowns. The defense pitch yet another shutout. Coach Dov’s record improved to 8-2 on the season. That was the last tournament game for the Flags we should be proud of these boys.

The Mighty Mites opened their 2nd round at George Bellis Park (Buena Park) against the Twin Cities Wolverines. This game turned out to be a tough game to gutt out a secondtime. We showed great defensed all game however our offense was unable to punch it in when we had the opportunity to score. The Wolverines may have moved on to the 3rd round, but the best team did not win on that day. Coach Razza, your team has a promising future. We will kick the door in next year.

The Jr Pee Wee’s opened their postseason play against the Tri City Falcons at Lynwood Middleschool. They had a first round bye. The also came out a little flat in the first half. Thank goodness their was a second half, because the boys managed to put it together in time enough to squeeze out a victory and kept their winning streak going another week. Coach Tim we don’t know how you do it but continue to do it. Good Luck against the Lakewood Vikings next week.

The Pee Wees had a 2nd round match up at Gardena Highschool against Long Beach Warriors. The game was battle of defenses. Our “Cardiac” Pee Wees held the Warriors to a low scoring game. Our offense had opportunities to score but we did not take advantage of those good field positions. When the clock read zero the Warriors won and moves on to the 3rd round while the Eagles goes home heartbroken. Our Pee Wees has nothing to be ashamed of for they played very well all season long inspite of our tough scheduling. Congrats to Coach Harold and your staff for such a fine season.

Our Jr Midgets opened their 1st round with a bye. In the 2nd round they matched up with a second time around game against the Twin Cities Wolverines at Serra Highschool. The Wolverines opened up with a first half touchdown after the Eagles defense denied them two other possession with goal line stances. After halftime our offense got it going and we marched down the field to score and take the lead. Our defense remained stingy up until the last minute where a couple of miscues were made and the Wolverines punched it in for a come from behind victory. It was a tough defeat for us. But to be able to put together a season like the Jr. Midgets have, with injuries after injuries we were proud to see how the boys were able to get it going again and again. Coach Mike we know you will have your young men ready for next season. Good luck….

The Midgets opened their 2nd round of play at Montebello Highschool against no other then Twin Cities Wolverines. (0 and2 for the day) The Wolverines managed a first quarter touchdown after a series of penalties against the Eagles. We found ourselves down at halftime and looking to be swept by their city if we don’t pull this out. With our back against the wall the Midgets came out fighting in the second half. Scoring at will on the Wolverines. They don’t get past the fifty yard line in the second  half. The Midgets move on to the 3rd round to set up a rematch against the Lakewood Titans. Lakewood handle us pretty well when we were short handed of players. Lets see how they handle us at full strength. Good luck Coach Chris and the Midgets…

Will I see you there?????

Eagles Win 4 Out Of 4 In Postseason Games

November 9, 2009

El Segundo did exceptionally well in this weekends opener for first round playoffs. The Flags Team in their Round-Robin Tournament, hosted The Buena Park Eagles(Green) at Banning Highschool. It took a series or two before the Flags offense stepped their game up. Scoring back to back to back to make it a rout. The defense had a great goal line stand to pitch yet another shut out in as many weeks. With that win the Flags improve their record to 7-2 on the season. That was their last game. Congrats to Coach Dov on a very successful season…

Moving on over to a second venue we find our Mighty Mites hosting the Lawndale Cardinals at George Belis Park in Buena Park. The Mighty Mites scored early and often. The defense was very stingy and the Cardinals never was a threat to score on us. Coach Razza has his boys in playoff frame of mind. Congrats on your first round victory and lead us to another victory next week.

Our third playoff game venue found our “Cardiac” Pee Wees versus the Montebello Xtremes at Gardena Highschool. With a stellar defense early we pulled out a safety in the first quarter. Thats all our offense needed was that spark from the defense. They scored at will. We were unstoppable. At the end of the game we have our third shut out of the day. Congrats to Coach Harold on your teams first round victory. Good luck next week Pee Wees.

Our final venue of the day leads to Cabrillo Highschool where our Midgets took on the Buena Park Eagles. This game is a special game because we finally get our team back at full staff. We had quit a few players the past week or two stricken with the flu and injuries. Buena Park proved to not be a challenge to the Midgets. They scored early and often while not allowing their opponents a single threat to score. We pitched yet another shut out. Coach Chris, congrats on your first round win and good luck to you guys in your second round.

Game times, venues, and opponents will be announced on Tuesday.

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!
